My Tree of Pride: A Simple Art Activity to Celebrate Roots, Home, and Dreams

At Give Kids Art, we love Los Angeles — it’s our home and the place where our small-but-mighty organization first began. Right now, families in our city and across the country are facing growing uncertainty and fear around immigration. We join the call for urgent policy change and respect for fundamental human rights.

Amid this unrest, we also know that children deserve gentle moments of pause and hope — spaces where they can process their feelings and reconnect with the beauty of their own stories. Art can be that gentle refuge.

Introducing “My Tree of Pride”
We created this simple drawing activity in partnership with our friends at Corazón Norte as a calm, creative way for children — especially those who have migrated — to reflect on where they’ve come from, where they are now, and all the dreams that lie ahead.

My Tree of Pride invites kids to celebrate:

  • 🌳 Roots: Where their journey began — and all the places they belong.

  • 🏡 Home: Where they are now.

  • 🌟 Future: All the dreams yet to come.

Many children hold roots in more than one place. This tree is for all of them — a place to hold every color, memory, and piece of home they carry in their hearts.

How to try it at home:
Gather paper, a pencil, and some crayons or markers. Invite your child to draw a tree whose trunk and leaves are filled with colors, words, or symbols that show their pride at every stage of their journey. There’s no right or wrong way — just time to create, reflect, and imagine.

If you’d like, share your Tree of Pride with us! Tag @GiveKidsArt on Instagram or email us at hello@givekidsart.org. We’d love to see the roots and hopes your family celebrates.
