Artist Statement: Averill Jane Smith is a Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist. Averill was born and raised in Ohio and moved west to pursue art. Averill focuses on the lines of the in-between, whether it is objectification or appreciation of the female form. The blur that appears in her daily life between realities that are digitally contrived, human-made, or made up within her own subconscious. She finds color a consistent medium as she constantly explores landscapes that engulf her, capturing them through double exposure analog photography, digitally manipulating images, archiving dated magazines from the 1900s to now, as well as painting, drawing, cutting, and pasting. Maximalism and Surrealism are reoccurring themes that Averill finds herself living within as a reflection of herself in her various surroundings that she hopes others can find a connection to when interacting with her work.
About This Piece: I was fresh off mountain air dreaming about what could be. I would love to develop this piece next in oil but to play with crayons and markers was perfect!
Art Materials: Crayons and markers on canvas. Note: The depth of the canvas is 5/8 inch.
