The Challenge
In early 2025, wildfires swept through Los Angeles, displacing families and upending daily life for thousands of children. Beyond the physical disruption, these children faced immense emotional upheaval — losing their routines, stability, and safe spaces to simply be kids.
The Goal: NBCUniversal’s Season of Service presented an opportunity to meet this moment with more than a donation. The goal was to provide 200 children with our signature Art Kits, giving them the tools to process trauma and find joy through creative expression during their hardest season.
The Solution
Give Kids Art and NBCUniversal came together around a shared belief: that children in crisis deserve access to creative expression—not as a luxury, but as a tool for healing.
NBCUniversal sponsored the initiative through their Season of Service program, and Give Kids Art took care of the rest.
The partnership was designed to be high-impact for the community and low-stress for the partner.
Sourcing & Logistics: Give Kids Art curated high-quality materials and handled all logistics.
Employee Activation: Five NBCUniversal teams across the country gathered to assemble the Art Kits. Each Kit was handled with care, transforming a simple supply into a personal gift.
Strategic Distribution: We partnered with the LA Strong Foundation to ensure every Art Kit reached the hands of a child directly impacted by the fires.
“Partnering with Give Kids Art allowed NBCU employees to empower childhood creativity. Through this meaningful project, teams from across the country were able to support families impacted by LA’s devastating wildfires. Give Kids Art offered a unique and fun way for employees to volunteer. ”
How It Worked
Five NBCUniversal employee teams across three states gathered to receive, count, and assemble Give Kids Art’s signature ready-to-take-home Art Kits. Each Kit was designed to give a child immediate access to creative materials—no instructions, no pressure. Just gentle inspiration and tools to create fearlessly.
Rather than a passive giving experience, volunteers became active participants in the process. They assembled every Art Kit with their own hands, and in doing so, transformed a donation into a collective act of care. Once assembled, NBCUniversal thoughtfully chose to ship the completed Kits back to California for distribution to wildfire-impacted communities.
To ensure the Kits reached children who needed them most, Give Kids Art partnered with LA Strong Foundation, an organization with deep community ties, to place Art Kits directly into the hands of families and youth facing disruption and uncertainty.
The Impact
200 Art Kits reached children across Los Angeles still living in the wake of devastating loss. When families are focused on rebuilding — securing food, clothing, and shelter — art can feel like a luxury. But for children, creative expression isn’t extra. It’s how they process, heal, and find moments of joy that go beyond survival. NBCUniversal made it possible for kids to receive that.
For NBCUniversal employees, this wasn’t just a check; the team-building experience was equally meaningful. By engaging employees in a hands-on project, NBCUniversal fostered:
Shared Purpose: A unified goal across multiple offices and states.
Visible Results: Tangible products created by their own staff.
Community Connection: Real-world relief delivered to children in need.
